Lowell Observatory

Their public observing plaza, the Giovale Open Deck Observatory, features daytime exhibits that highlight the science of spectroscopy and the types of telescopes astronomers use. At night, you can gaze through six advanced telescopes and see everything from rich star fields and planets to nebulae and galaxies.

Anderson Mesa

Just outside Flagstaff in the Coconino National Forest, Anderson Mesa is home to the Naval Observatory’s Navy Precision Optical Interferometer (NPOI) and Lowell’s Anderson Mesa Station. Lay back and lose yourself in cosmic dust.

Buffalo Park

A popular hiking area on the Flagstaff Urban Trail System, Buffalo Park is also a stargazers dream. Bring the blankets and pay a visit to the open meadows where the skies seem to stretch on endlessly and the stars seem to dance.

Heritage Square

During the summer, the Coconino Astronomical Society sets up several scopes each month in Heritage Square for public viewings. Don’t miss their “tour” of the moon, in which they highlight the moon’s mountains, valleys, and craters.
